Director's Statement:

Rafael is a highly passionate and understanding educator with more than 15 years of experience in the music and education industry. He has a deep focus on creative arts, society and culture research which allows for a wider range of potential students. His extensive years of teaching spans from Elementary, and High School but also not limited to College and University. A California native who has been part of a diversified range of programs in both hemispheres, Northern and Southern. Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic he taught private music lessons at the California Institute of the Arts(Los Angeles, CA) between 2016-2018. Summer 2018 he formed part of the CalArts Alumni Office as an Arts administrator until Summer 2020. When the Pandemic hit it's peak Rafael took the opportunity to redirect his perspective by constructing and deconstructing his own methodologies established back in 2018 by a platform he founded called, "The Raf Collective". This platform has now become the basis of his career creatively, educationally, and personally. Currently Rafael is doing a Guest Artist Residency at San Joaquin Delta College(SJDC) in Stockton, CA invited by Brian Kendrick(Director of Jazz) in pursuits to bring something new and innovative by creating an outlet for expansion to it's already well-established music program. He is a proud SJDC Alumni that has contributed to the Stockton Community for many years, and this residency will not only help the SJDC music program but allow Rafael to work towards his idea of Global Community Outreach in the future and beyond.
